The positioning of the rug in a bedroom is mainly determined by the location of the bed since that is the focal point. However, night desks or sofas at the foot of the bed should also be considered. Make sure that the carpet either does or does not include the night desks. When only a part is on the carpet, it can become wobbly. In general, there are 3 ways to place a rug in a bedroom:
- One large rug including the bed and night desks
- A smaller carpet just covering the lower two-thirds of the bed
- Two smaller rugs along each side of the bed
One large rug including the bed and night desks
First, the rug could be big enough to include the bed and night desks, making sure your feet have a soft spot to land when getting up in the morning. You can still decide to let the carpet start from the night desks as well.
A smaller carpet just covering the lower two-thirds of the bed
Another way is placing a slightly smaller carpet underneath the two lower thirds of the bed. This is ideal when having a bed sofa in front of the bed.
Two smaller rugs along each side of the bed
Finally, you can decide to have two smaller but long rugs along each side of the bed. When choosing this option, make sure that they are placed symmetrically from one another and that they match.
