A long, often narrow, hallway can give a claustrophobic feeling. Normally when you add decoration it feels natural to start with the walls. However, in a long hallway, it can be challenging and if your hallway is narrow, it can even obstruct your passageway. In this article, we will share some decoration tips.
- Focus on the end of the hallway
- Use the floor to draw attention to the length
- Draw patterns on the ceiling and/or walls
Focus on the end of the hallway
Instead of focusing on the width of the hallway, focus on the thing your hallway does have: the length! It is a unique feature that naturally draws all the attention to the end of the walkway. Put some artwork on the end to make it seen. Using a mirror on the end of the hallway to reflect some light, can make it extra bright.
Use the floor to draw attention to the length
To emphasize the length, you can place a runner on the floor. The long carpet will draw the eye to the end of the hallway, and make any pieces that you put up there stand out. Besides this, you will also emphasize the good aspect of your hallway (the length) and avoid drawing attention to your less favorite aspect (the width).
Draw patterns on the ceiling and/or walls
If you do not like a runner on the floor, you can achieve the same desired outcome by painting the wall or ceiling. You can paint the ceiling in such a way that it looks like a long runner. A similar result can be achieved by painting the walls. To even draw more attention to the end, paint the wall at the end of the hallway in a contrasting color.
